Oh god, I hate that phrase "You will know when the time comes" O_o;
I want to know about the Ascension thing too, I'm about 85% of the way through level 19... SO yeah, wanna know how to get there or where...

If your level 19 and you haven't gotten to the point in the story where you are told how to ascend, you will hit level 20 before you ascend, at which point ascension will become "just another cool mission" instead of "I beat a cool mission and zomg level 17 to 20 instant!" or whatever.
Anyway, the missions storyline explains basically everything...so if you want to know about ascending just keep playing missions, you'll get there.

Ascension is just the turning plot.. You do it all when you get to augury rock. There you have to do 3 missions. Elonas reach, thirsty river, and dunes of dispair. After you have to defeat your mirror image (youll see). After you beat your image if your not level 20 yet you automatically get to level 20... If you are already well then you had a much easier time.. Thats about it. Oh now your able to change your secondary profession by completing one of monk/ranger/warrior/elementalist/mesmer/necromancer path quests. (You can do each one and change constantly..) Also note that you lose your skills of your current sec profession while changing.

You said you lose your secondary skills while changing, but do you have to go through and get 50 more skill points to buy all new secondary skills or do your old skill points get refunded?
If they do get refunded and its a seamless transition, what are the downsides to changing your secondary profession?

He only meant they are temporary disabled.
You still keep your original secondary skills if you change, and later change back. But you can only use skills from your primary/secondary.
And attribute points will of course get refunded.
